De-Clutter the Book Shelf

Do you have a lot of books lying around? Are you really reading them? Are they reference material? Have you considered Kindle? Kindle is the ability to read books from an electronic hand held device that weighs less than a book. It also comes with more features than a book itself could imagine having.

Many of the Kindle devices come with either Wi-Fi or unlimited 3G access with no monthly fees or contracts. You can also search, share passages on Facebook or Twitter, bookmark, and link directly to a dictionary or Wikipedia. It can also read to you out loud, and it can play mp3 files while you read.

Book availability is also impressive. You can choose from over 800,000 books, most of which are under ten dollars. They also have over a million books that are out of copy right (generally your classics) available for free. Publications like newspapers, magazines, and blogs are also available for viewing in addition to games like Sudoku, Hangman, and Scrabble. Devices can hold up to 3,500 books, and pricing ranges from $100 to $200 for six inch Kindle devices.

Afraid the screen will be as difficult to read as a computer monitor?  They have focused design to make the screen look as much like the paper from a book as they can. In addition, you can change your font, the size of the font, and zoom in on text.

Some of your books are best served in a book format like a dictionary, The Bible, and those where the paper is part of the reading experience. If you have a book where you have already written a lot of notes, that’s a must save. However, many of your books might serve you better with an electronic version on Kindle and the hard copy donated to the local library.

Computer Science: Reaching the Horizon of the Future

Probably one of the most important degrees in this day and age is computer science. Why is that? Because computer technology has been skyrocketing into the future for the past decade. It’s almost staggering to witness the amount of growth. Moreover, actually acquiring online degrees in computer science is almost its own benefit—for the ability to obtain an online degree wouldn’t have existed if it wasn’t for computer science and technology! For starters, though, here are some things to keep in mind regarding the field of computer science.

There are several different degrees you could pursue that would immediately qualify you into the field of computer science. One of them is computer engineering; another is artificial intelligence. These are all high-profile degrees that take a great deal of work to go through, but in the end can set you up for the new horizon in a field that even to this day is still growing. Just so you know, it’s not all about learning how to program or computer language studies. The fact is that field of study isn’t for everyone. You can, however, focus on a more theoretical computer science degree—one that’s not based on actual programming but rather a scientific approach to developing computers and operating systems of the future. Relate it to the relationship between chemistry and pharmaceuticals: chemists create the drugs, doctors administer them to patients. Computer theorists create the languages, computer programmers and coders actually use the languages to create such things as games and applications. As said before, it depends on what you’re interested in. There are different sub-fields to computer science, so enjoy finding yours.

This is to say that obtaining an online degree in computer science benefits the future of computers and technology on a consumer and business level. The students of today will be the pioneers of tomorrow for the next unfathomable revolutionary technology. Enjoy what is to come!

This is why those who are trained in a broad range of areas and that are highly self-motivated will have the greatest number of opportunities and to be successful.

One of the primary challenges for information technology professionals is to keep current on changes in software and hardware technology. Education is a continual aspect of the job, and the technician must continually keep pursuing certifications and be up to date on the latest trends and market needs of their clients. This can be as simple as a certification in a basic software program to pursuing higher education, depending on the individual’s job goals. The individual may also have to attend seminars and other trainings in order to be current in the field.

When looking at education, the information technology professional has to consider whether or not they want to work in administration. Most management positions in the field require an advanced degree, usually at the master’s degree level. Many, though, prefer to stay in the role of a technician or software engineer, working directly with clients. Regardless of which avenue the individual takes, education is a vital part of a successful future in this career. Being a jack of all trades in information technology can be extremely valuable, especially when the individual has schooling in other areas. Some of the most beneficial areas can be business and accounting, which helps to create a strong knowledge base when working with a particular type of industry.

Controlling the Chaos That Is Your Computer

Any college student will tell you that completing and turning in written assignments would not happen if not for their computer. Any college student will also tell you that ninety percent of their time spent on their computer is spent trying to remember just what they labeled their assignment and where it ended up in the great mess that is their computer. Unfortunately for many college students, the ability to organize, or rather the time to organize, does not come easily. However, organizing your computer is very easy and very painless process. And in retrospect of all the time one would spend searching their computer for documents, organizing the mess is a time saver.

The first step in organizing your computer is to recognize similarities between documents. For instance, if you are an English major and there are a great many documents on Early American Literature, a folder for the topic should be created. Another way to determine what folders you need to create would be find a theme. Perhaps you want to designate folders for particular classes and place all homework assignments in that folder.

Another important step in organization is to label documents with descriptive words. Rather than simple labeling a document ‘writing assignment’, label it ‘Poe Poem Response’. By clearly labeling documents it will be able to find what you are looking for quickly without having to open up every ‘writing assignment’ you ever did. Labeling will also you determine into what folder the document needs to go.

Organizing is as much about storing documents as it is letting go of documents. If there are still documents that you have saved from high school, it is time to say goodbye. Look at the documents that you have on your computer. If you have not opened the document in months, and will probably never open it again, it is time to get ride of it. De-cluttering your computer is as important as organizing it.

Learning to Let Go: De- Cluttering Your Computer

The day after I graduation from college I deleted every writing assignment I ever had to do. I deleted all my assignments with a demented happiness, elated to watched every meaningless writing assignment I had been forced to write disappear from my life forever. Nowhere in the demented flurry of deletions did I pause to think that writing jobs would want samples of my work as part of the application process. Realizing this sure made me wish I had not been so trigger happy with the delete button. While I have to admit there were many assignments that I no longer needed, it would have been wise to search through the documents to determine which ones those were.

De-cluttering your computer is a great thing. It helps your computer run faster and it will make your life that much easier. But it is important to know what should be dispensed with and what you need to keep.

Like any college student, I had assignments that dated back to my pre-requiset classes. Looking back, I am not sure why I still had those assignments four years later. It is important to realize that some documents will never be used again and it is ok to delete them. Letting go of documents can be hard. However, like with clothes, if you have not worn something in a year, get rid of it.

The documents that you should keep are works that you are particularly proud of. Keep works that show what you are capable of. In the future, you may want to include these documents in a graduate program application or use them to get a dream job. Also keep work that you feel strongly about. It may never win an award but it makes you remember something. It is also good to keep things that are a work in process. You never know when inspiration will strike.

Using Your Computer to Go Green

It seems like everyone is concerned about going green these days, as right they should be. But some of the options for leading a green lifestyle can seem daunting or like a scarifice. One of the easiest ways to go green is to reduce the amount of paper that is mailed to you.

You can stop being mailed so much paper by simply determining that you will be paying your bills online. Think of all the bills you recieve on a monthly basis. The number is quite large. The envelopes that the bills are sent in do not just contain your bill though, they often contain an insane amount of paper that means nothing to you. Half of what you recieve in the mail you will throw away anyway. To stop this cycle and to cut down on the amount of paper that is being sent to you, just elect to pay your bills online.

Almost every company now offers a pay online method because companies realize that not only are they using a ton of paper but that sending out the bills cost money, money that in turn ends up on you bill.

Also think of how much time you spend paying bills. Most people have a check book for the specific purpose of paying bills. Most businesses do not accept checks as a form of payment so it seems silly to keep a check book, which uses more paper, just to pay bills.

Paying bills online is great way to reduce the use of paper all the way around and is now very quick and easu online. On most bill paying sights, your credit card is held on your account so that whenever you are ready to pay your bill, you simply determine what to pay. Bill paying online is very quick and easy and is one great step towards going green.

There is not doubt that world is changing. More and more functions of everyday life are being performed on the computer. Learning how to use the computer, weather it is learning how to type or learning how to video chat for work, is so important. As using the computer becomes necessay, it becomes necessary to introduce the computer to younger age groups. One of the great things about integrating computers into classrooms is that computers draw children’s attention. Children are interested in using the computers and will seek out time to familiarize themselves with the computers.

By placing computers in a classroom, children view the computer as a fun activity, a privlage, while learning important skills that will stay with them throught adulthood. In many schools, subjects that were previously taught to past generations are being replaced with computer studies. Skills like penmanship and cursive are becoming obsolete as assignments are almost universally completed on the computer. By replacing classes like penmanship and cursive with typing and computer studies, children are more prepared to join the world where the computer is so essencial to everyday life.

Another great result of bringing computers into the classroom, is that children are now expected to demonstrate more advanced skills. Children now must demonstrate their ability to understand a combination of keystrokes to recieve a desired effect. They must understand the way a computer works, how to retreve information, how to save information, and even how to do research. All these skills are required to be successful in the world so learning how to use a computer becomes imparative at an earlier age.

There is not doubt that as the world changes, the computer will be an essencial part of that change. As computers become more avaliable in classrooms children are able to learn to use the computer sooner.

Saving Personal Documents in Online Storage

Your documents are important to you and you want to do everything to secure them. Most people assume that by putting them into a folder or safe they are protected, but that is not the case. A fire or flood could come along and desstroy all the documents. If that occurred, what would happen then? You’d probably be without those important documents. This is the main reason that many people are deciding to back up their personal information on online storage websites.

Online storage websites are like personal storage lockers, but only online. They allow people to be able to save a number of personal documents on a safe and secure website and then be able to access them anywhere in the world. This allows people to have a backup option should a fire or flood happen to their home and all personal documents are destroyed. Here is a list of some of the personal documents that are being backed up on online storage sites.

Leasing Information. Whether you rent one of the many Phoenix apartments or lease out a Seattle apartment you’ll want to keep your lease information backed up through online storage, it prevents any valuable information getting lost.

Birth Certificates/Adoption Records. These documents can be easily obtained by heading to the local courthouse, but having them on a backup server saves a lot of time.

Photos/Videos. Many people are backing up personal photos online in case something should happen. Many of these photos should they be lost are lost for good so having a back up option prevents these photos and videos from being lost forever.

Financial Documents. People are still leery of saving financial information online but it is starting to grow in popularity. Stocks, banking information and other financial information is being sent to many online storage sites daily.
