Computer Science: Reaching the Horizon of the Future

Probably one of the most important degrees in this day and age is computer science. Why is that? Because computer technology has been skyrocketing into the future for the past decade. It’s almost staggering to witness the amount of growth. Moreover, actually acquiring online degrees in computer science is almost its own benefit—for the ability to obtain an online degree wouldn’t have existed if it wasn’t for computer science and technology! For starters, though, here are some things to keep in mind regarding the field of computer science.

There are several different degrees you could pursue that would immediately qualify you into the field of computer science. One of them is computer engineering; another is artificial intelligence. These are all high-profile degrees that take a great deal of work to go through, but in the end can set you up for the new horizon in a field that even to this day is still growing. Just so you know, it’s not all about learning how to program or computer language studies. The fact is that field of study isn’t for everyone. You can, however, focus on a more theoretical computer science degree—one that’s not based on actual programming but rather a scientific approach to developing computers and operating systems of the future. Relate it to the relationship between chemistry and pharmaceuticals: chemists create the drugs, doctors administer them to patients. Computer theorists create the languages, computer programmers and coders actually use the languages to create such things as games and applications. As said before, it depends on what you’re interested in. There are different sub-fields to computer science, so enjoy finding yours.

This is to say that obtaining an online degree in computer science benefits the future of computers and technology on a consumer and business level. The students of today will be the pioneers of tomorrow for the next unfathomable revolutionary technology. Enjoy what is to come!

Learning to Let Go: De- Cluttering Your Computer

The day after I graduation from college I deleted every writing assignment I ever had to do. I deleted all my assignments with a demented happiness, elated to watched every meaningless writing assignment I had been forced to write disappear from my life forever. Nowhere in the demented flurry of deletions did I pause to think that writing jobs would want samples of my work as part of the application process. Realizing this sure made me wish I had not been so trigger happy with the delete button. While I have to admit there were many assignments that I no longer needed, it would have been wise to search through the documents to determine which ones those were.

De-cluttering your computer is a great thing. It helps your computer run faster and it will make your life that much easier. But it is important to know what should be dispensed with and what you need to keep.

Like any college student, I had assignments that dated back to my pre-requiset classes. Looking back, I am not sure why I still had those assignments four years later. It is important to realize that some documents will never be used again and it is ok to delete them. Letting go of documents can be hard. However, like with clothes, if you have not worn something in a year, get rid of it.

The documents that you should keep are works that you are particularly proud of. Keep works that show what you are capable of. In the future, you may want to include these documents in a graduate program application or use them to get a dream job. Also keep work that you feel strongly about. It may never win an award but it makes you remember something. It is also good to keep things that are a work in process. You never know when inspiration will strike.

Computers in the Classroom

There is not doubt that world is changing. More and more functions of everyday life are being performed on the computer. Learning how to use the computer, weather it is learning how to type or learning how to video chat for work, is so important. As using the computer becomes necessay, it becomes necessary to introduce the computer to younger age groups. One of the great things about integrating computers into classrooms is that computers draw children’s attention. Children are interested in using the computers and will seek out time to familiarize themselves with the computers.

By placing computers in a classroom, children view the computer as a fun activity, a privlage, while learning important skills that will stay with them throught adulthood. In many schools, subjects that were previously taught to past generations are being replaced with computer studies. Skills like penmanship and cursive are becoming obsolete as assignments are almost universally completed on the computer. By replacing classes like penmanship and cursive with typing and computer studies, children are more prepared to join the world where the computer is so essencial to everyday life.

Another great result of bringing computers into the classroom, is that children are now expected to demonstrate more advanced skills. Children now must demonstrate their ability to understand a combination of keystrokes to recieve a desired effect. They must understand the way a computer works, how to retreve information, how to save information, and even how to do research. All these skills are required to be successful in the world so learning how to use a computer becomes imparative at an earlier age.

There is not doubt that as the world changes, the computer will be an essencial part of that change. As computers become more avaliable in classrooms children are able to learn to use the computer sooner.

Are Educational Computer Games Really Worth it?

Computer games, since their invention, have been extremely popular with children and young adults from the ages of 7 to 17. Computer games which use interactive components, sounds, and interesting graphics are designed to intrigue a young aduiance. At their first conception, computer games were labeled as a distraction. It was said that children that played computer games were turning their brains to mush by playing around on the computer rather than learning. However, computer games are no longer just games. While they are still intriguing with their interactive games, sounds, and interesting graphics, now many computer games combine everything that is intriguing with learning.

Many computer games are not designed to intrigue children to read, do math, and solve puzzles. Rather than view computers in a negative light and discourage your children from using the computer, invest in some of the games that are designed to help children learn. Computer games that offer educational benefits are a compromise of the highest degree. Children are getting to learn by doing something enjoyable and fun and parents recieve the piece of mind in knowing that their child is learning.

Computers offer a great alternative or change to any educational program. Rather than doing endless rounds of flash cards, engage your child in a math game on the computer. Computer games will offer a great alternative to your childs mundane studies. Children are also much more likely to enjoy learning if they doing something that they actually enjoy. Learning to spell would be much more fun in a game than having a spelling test.

Using educational computer games is a win-win for both the parent and the child. Not only will the child enjoy the games and want to keep playing them, but the child will be learning. The computer games will become a great way to increase your child’s understanding of school subjects.
