If you run a business of any kind, or are an independent contractor with business documents, you may realize how important your files and data truly are. Having a computer backup of all of your business files and data is vitally important, because many different things can happen that can compromise those files, rendering them destroyed or otherwise unusable.

A single business computer may contain a wide variety of different important files including payroll information, accounting information, information about employees, human resources files, business sales data and marketing strategies. With so much information stored on a single computer, it should be readily apparent why keeping a mirror copy of these files would be so important.

If something happened to your business computer, the result could be a loss of all of your business files in one fell swoop. By creating a backup of your business files, what you can do is have an extra copy of everything that you can gain access to when you need it. A mirror copy of all of your files will benefit you significantly, especially if you remember to update your backups regularly so that your most recent files are included.

There are services offered that will automate the backup process for you. You can do the backups yourself, as long as you have a system in place and remember to make continuous backups on a regular basis. If you do not back up your files often, and your files are lost, you will not have the most recent additions to your system. A daily backup or a weekly backup is typically best, depending on how many files are edited or created on a daily and weekly basis. It is important that you create a backup system that works for your unique business, because every business has distinct backup requirements.

Benefits of Setting Up a Home Network

If there is more than just a single computer present in your home, then you are probably well aware of the fact that bouncing back and forth between various computers for files or attached peripherals can be a pain for you and your family. For example, if the computer upstairs is attached to the printer and the laptop is downstairs, does it bother you to have to go upstairs just to print, e-mailing files to yourself or using discs and portable flash drives to move computer files back and forth?

You may be surprised to know that by setting up a home network you can cut down on a significant amount of this hassle. This will connect all of your computers to the internet, as well as to one another, and you can network other elements as well, including printers for wireless printing capabilities.

Not only is setting up a brand new home network going to add a little more family unity to your home, but it is also likely to add a bunch of comfort to the home computing scenario as well. Why should you sit hunched uncomfortably over a desk while checking your e-mail, when instead you can check your e-mail first thing in the morning at the dining room table over breakfast or while sitting back and relaxing on your laptop with feet on the coffee table.

When you set up a home network, one of the greatest advantages is just the flexibility that you are afforded with. When computer technology first became prevalent, flexibility was a luxury. Today, flexibility is a fact of life when it comes to computer networking. With a computer network, you can tell your printer to print from your laptop, wirelessly, or any other computer in your home, and you can move files from computer to computer on the same network without difficulty.

If you have several different computers located in different places, such as a home computer, an office computer and your laptop computer, then one of the most valuable assets that you keep in your software arsenal is a remote desktop application. This is a truly valuable asset that you can keep on all of your computers because it is going to allow you to access all of your computers no matter where you are. As long as the active computer has a remote desktop application, and you have the login credentials for the destination computer, you can use this software to access any of your computers remotely.

Remote desktop will allow you to reach your home computer from your office, your office computer from home or either of these computers from your laptop, and so on. Basically, if you have three computers, you can reach the other two no matter which one you are on. This is going to grant you access to the different files and programs and whatnot that are on each computer. Being able to gain access to each computer is going to be an important consideration for many obvious reasons.

Remote desktop software programs allow you the freedom to work from any computer by remotely connecting to your remote computer, the destination computer that you own. Most of these software options simply require that you connect to the other computer and you will have complete control over it. You will see the desktop for that computer as if you were sitting directly in front of it on a real time basis. Any of the mouse movements, key strokes or other actions that you take will impact the destination computer as if you were really using it, allowing you to access and use any of your computers from any of your other computers that easily.

Your computer and your computer software can quickly go out of date, this is simply the nature of technology in this day and age. As your software programs go out of date, you are going to need to make updates in order to make sure that everything runs properly. This is especially true when it comes to operating systems because new patches and security updates are common over time, and Microsoft Windows Updates are designed for this very purpose. Users of Windows operating systems can get the updates that their computers need for security and other similar purposes.

Microsoft Windows Updates are typically released on Tuesday nights, and they are typically a varied bag of different support improvements, security improvements and other necessary or optional updates that are made to the operating system and the software on the computer. Most of these updates are not required, but are important because they provide the computer with much-needed updates that improve its performance and usability or its security for the user.

There are many different reasons for taking advantage of Windows Updates if you are a user of Windows computers. If your computer makes use of the Microsoft Windows operating system like Windows XP, Windows 7 or Windows Vista, then Microsoft is probably releasing valuable updates every week that you would benefit from installing on your computer. The installation process is easy, you simply have to tell the software which updates you want to install and which updates you want to skip, and start the installation. Usually a computer reboot is required afterwards to put everything into effect. You may not immediately see any differences in how your computer runs, but most of the Windows Updates are things that you do need to install for better performance or better computer security, which should be two of your greatest concerns.

Small Laptop Revolution: Personalization and Portability

You see them everywhere from an airplane to your local coffee shop and believe me they are here to stay. Smaller sized laptops have taken the computer world by storm. They are small, light and can do almost anything a full laptop can do at half the size but with the same speed.

Smaller sized laptops are laptops thirteen inches and smaller. This is the most amazing and beneficial aspects of small laptops, their portability. They are truly remarkable in size. Small laptops are typically smaller than a pad of paper and usually weigh less than three pounds. These small laptops have taken portability to a whole new level. Men can easily put then in small hand luggage while women find them easy to put in a tote purse. Before, both would have to carry a separate computer case for their seventeen inch screen.

Some say that the smaller laptop or netbook market will lose its market share as they have to compete with the new incoming tablets but for the typical business traveler a tablet cannot compete with a twelve inch laptop that has a word processor, huge storage capabilities and full internet capabilities. This is not to say tablets will leave the market but the tablets aim is to acquire a different segment of the market. The tablet phenomenon is just that a phenomenon. Three hundred thousand units sold in one day cannot be disputed but where the tablet lacks is personalization. The tablets currently out on the market offer a type of cloud computing. While this is enjoyable it is not practical in a sense to overtake the personal computer market. While in due time it can adapt and increase its personalization capabilities currently it’s a shiny new toy that is fun to play with. In contrast, a laptop is still what you go to when you need to get work completed.
